We used the following framework to look at the senses :-
At the physical level – for example how the ear works
At the ego– the way we nourish ourselves thru the sense. It’s a bit like food, good food makes your body healthy and so unhealthy information thru the senses can make us unhealthy.
At the Social level – they can provide a way of connecting with other people, how do we describe a rose to another person and then it can a way to connect to every body in the world. We describe about a car but who invented a car and so on.
The ultimate level-
is beyond the six senses- the non-sense level- which can only be realised
and not really described.
(Based on Ken Wilbers work)

The senses get fed just like anything else so its helpful to notice what the result is of giving your senses some types of food. And whether you are willing to moderate what you give to them for the sake of your own well being and the well being of all beings?
